What happens is, their home becomes a target of a high tech robbery where three burglars break in with plans to take a hard to find prize that they’re in search for and take out anyone who gets in the way. Their lavish home is protected by a home security company and when Chloe calls in and speaks with a security systems specialist (Jason Patric), he helps her out by becoming her eyes and ears as the villains try and locate her and Jacob. Things quickly go dark for the mother and son when all communications are disabled.
These burglars always seem to be one step ahead with their sinister gameplan and end up cutting communications coming in and out of the house (at first), but young Jacob is pretty slick and knows a way they can get back in touch with the home security company. Once they get back in touch, their help once again is able to tell them where to go and ways to hide and how to avoid these intruders. Ultimately, the game of cat and mouse comes to an end and the authorities finally arrive. Chloe and Jacob are left scarred but survive this horrifying night they’ve encountered.
