Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju’: is not a run-of-the-mill film, yes. But before saying it is refreshing, one has to qualify the verdict. Kranthi Madhav of ‘Onamalu’ fame has matured as a filmmaker for sure. From dishing out Government ads-like film that was too bland and whose scenes seemed like awareness documentaries in service of Union Govt programmes/schemes, he has grown up to make a proper mainstream film that has traces of high-brow entertainment. He is aided by his talented dialogue writer; thankfully, this writer’s pen cures itself of a saccharine-emitting disease after interval.
Raghuram (Sharwanand) is an athlete who talks poetry whether there is a need or not. He is the one and only son of a syrupy mom, whose refusal to make Badam Kheer for the wannabe national champion until he wins the national trophy, may have a subtle reason. So far so sugary. Then comes Nazira (Nithya Menon), playing hide and seek with the non-poet poetic athlete, revealing just her mesmerizing eyes for entirely poetic, romantic, non-religious reasons.
This movie is a simple, romantic, heart touching love story. The movie starts with Raja Ram(Sharwanand)’s introduction as a successful runner. His daughter, Parvati who works in FM Radio is introduced . Ram, then starts narrating his past story. The movie shifts to Ram’s youth , where his aim was to become a successful runner. His mother Parvati (which he has put for his daughter also) is a music teacher who earns money for Ram’s education. She wanted him to bring a gold medal in national running competition.
Raja Ram continues his studies and wins state athletics championship after a few days , where he meets Nazeera(Nitya Menon) who starts caring about him .She always wore burqa covering her face with niqab, so Ram never sees her face. Nazeera has a friend, Jyothi who is always with her. Nazeera joins Parvati’s music class and introduces herself as Khanum. Ram is honored for winning in state athletics championship, where a guy asks him for his autograph and reveals that it is Nazeera who asked for that. He follows Nazeera and she falls in love with him. Nazeera tells Jyothi about her love with Ram. Nazeera goes to Ram’s house and knows that he requires shoes which he couldn’t afford. She gives him the money for that and takes his medals in return.
