“Chapter One: Last Stage to Red Rock”
In post-Civil War Wyoming, Major Marquis “The Bounty Hunter” Warren (Jackson) attempts to hitch a ride on a stagecoach driven by O. B. Jackson (Parks). Warren is trying to transport the corpses of three outlaws to Red Rock for a handsome reward. He is let aboard by fellow bounty hunter John “The Hangman” Ruth (Russell). Ruth is escorting fugitive Daisy “The Prisoner” Domergue (Leigh) to Red Rock—alive—to collect a $10,000 reward, and to see her hang. To ensure that she cannot escape, Ruth has handcuffed himself to her. Domergue spits on a letter that Warren claims is from Abraham Lincoln; he punches her, and she falls out of the stagecoach, taking Ruth with her.
